Double blade ice skates verse single which is best to start with ?

My daughter is beginning ice skating soon she is coming up 4 years old would you suggest double blades or is it best to start with the normal ice skates ???

Double blade ice skates verse single which is best to start with ?
I would say definitely the regular single blade skates.

Double blades (or double runners) really don%26#039;t teach a child how to balance on skates properly (it%26#039;s NOT like training wheels on a bike) - they just feel %26quot;secure%26quot; on the ice. They do not move like single blade skates - therefore you can%26#039;t really %26quot;figure%26quot; skate in them (they are more like mini sleds on each foot!). If you decide to have her start classes, most rinks would definitely not allow double runner skates to be used in class anyway.

Children adapt pretty quickly . . . she%26#039;ll get the hang of skating in %26quot;normal%26quot; skates soon enough!

Hope your daughter has fun with her ice skating!
Reply:Double Blades help with the balence but if she is taking the lessons she might want to get single blades only because she will want to keep going.
Reply:Single blades! My daughter is age 3 1/2, and she%26#039;s started on single blades. You%26#039;ll be amazed how quickly they learn to do the basics. I don%26#039;t think double blades would have helped her. In fact, I suspect they would have made it harder, if only because she%26#039;d then need to relearn all that stuff on single blades.

And if you do single blades, you can rent the skates at the rink, rather than having to buy them.
Reply:normal. she will get used to the double and it is very hard to switch to regular if you have used double.
Reply:I would suggest beginning with the single blade skates. From what I%26#039;ve seen the double blade skates just tend to slide all around the ice, and then when they do go to regular skates they have a really hard time.
Reply:Double blades are suposed to help with keeping balance in the begginning stages of learning to skate. It%26#039;s probably best to keep her off them because when one falls, especially when little, it won%26#039;t kill them and it usually doesn%26#039;t hurt that much. Plus, falling is part of the learning process! Double baldes will be hard to get off of after skating for a while and getting used to them. Buying regular blades to attach to her skates can be expensive.

It%26#039;s best to start with normal ice skates because she will learn the most important part of ice skating: balance. When you use double blades she will have to learn to balance on regular skates, and it will slow her progress.

Double blades are known to slide all around on the ice, and it doesn%26#039;t exactly teach her to balance, it just makes a %26quot;comfort factor,%26quot; and all it does is make her feel more afraid.

Double blades do not enable you to actually figure skates, and your main goal is to help your daughter learn, not feel comfortable. Ice rinks don%26#039;t take double blade skates most of the time because it doesn%26#039;t promote learning to skate. And you have to admit, don%26#039;t they look a little strange? She could be teased by other children at the rink in her group lesson.

Good luck!
Reply:single blade. if she is planning on continueing to higher levels. it really isnt that hard to babland on a single blade, i see little kids skating alla time
