How to tie your ice skates?

when u tie ur ice skates do u just tie them like you would tie your shoes or is there a special way to tie them?

How to tie your ice skates?
Here is a website that explains how to properly lace your figure skates. http://figureskating.about.com/od/bootsa...
Reply:It is important to tie your skates tighter at the ankle. A loose ankle can cause injuries. Double knot them so they dont become loose. Dont tie them too tight at the top as it wont give you much flexibility

also if you are starting with a new pair of pro figure skates and are breaking into them i would recommend you not tie the last hook to give you more flexibility and comfort when you start out. then later you can tie it to the very top
Reply:i used what is called a double knot, you tied then like you do ur shoes then take the left over and tie them again just like you would if you were tieing from the first time, but to untie is sometimes hard you have to pull only one string really hard to get them to untie or you will have a big knot. good luck
Reply:Same, just pull veeeerry tightly
Reply:...you ahve to lace them up like criss cross and tie them really tight and i would double knot.

What pair of ice skates do you recommend?

I%26#039;m looking to buy a pair of ice skates and I%26#039;m curious to which ones you recommend. The Bauer Supreme 50 or the

CCM Vecto V8.0. Which is a better skate?

What pair of ice skates do you recommend?
Are you trying to figure skate or play hockey; these sound like hockey skates. Reidel figure skates would be ok if you can%26#039;t buy customs. However your best bet for customs would be KLINGBEIL
Reply:Neither skate is better. Jacksons are the best skates. They are custom made to fit your foot, and they don%26#039;t scratch easily. Now, whichever skates you choose, you need to cook/bake them. Ask a coach about it. I know it sounds wierd, but you actually put your skates in the oven at a cetain temperature for a certain ammount of minutes, and then put the skates on your feet. The skates don%26#039;t burn you when you put them on. On the contrary, they feel rather warm and cozy. Whether you buy Jacksons or Riedell or Bauer Supreme 50 or CCM Becto V8.0, remember that its the heart of the skater that really matters!

Good Luck Shopping For Skates!
Reply:I think the best option for you is to find someone who uses either of them and ask people what they think about those skates (advantages and disadvantages) ask them if they had to change their skates which brand they will choose. By asking someone who is already skated in them is good (don%26#039;t be shy). You can also ask advice from one of the coaches, they will know better they have been in the business for years and they usually know what skates their students used and which one is better than the other.

I am personally can%26#039;t give you advice, I have never came across those skates....
Reply:These sound like hockey skates not figure skates.

If you want figure skates and you do want to go customs, Riedell would be a good bet. However if customs are what you want Klingbiel is a good choice
Reply:well my choice would be the ccm they have much more they are more stylish and you can have the blades in three different types the ccms would definatley do it 4 me ccm is a very good long lastin hardware brand that have produced ic skates for a very long time and are very good they are also very strong thank lucy

Where can I buy ice skates?

Hey... I go ice skating a lot but I%26#039;m not a hockey player or anything... But i want to buy black ice skates for girls... Where can I buy them?... It could be a store or online but it will be way better if it%26#039;s a store...

Where can I buy ice skates?
If you mean figure skates, white is worn by girls/women and black is worn by boys/men. Maybe it%26#039;s %26quot;tradition%26quot; that makes it that way (???). All the girls/women and boys/men figure skate descriptions (for the regular boot type) will be labeled that way. So there are no %26quot;black%26quot; skates for girls - as the assumption is girls wear white figure skates.

If I am not mistaken, for children%26#039;s skates, there is no difference in a girls%26#039; or boys%26#039; skates except for the color (and that the boys%26#039; usually cost a few dollars more for some reason). However sizing is different for women and men besides the color . . . men%26#039;s are wider than women%26#039;s.

But hey, if you absolutely want black - go for it - whatever you%26#039;re comfortable with. They just need to fit you right. That being said, it%26#039;s probably best if you do go buy them in person so you can try them on. And for the best fit you should go to a pro shop (the skate store at the rink or at least a shop that specializes in figure skates) and ask for the expert skate fitter. It%26#039;s possible your local sports store may carry some skates, but they may not be considered %26quot;quality%26quot; ones.

Some online shops:

Some of the pics are all %26quot;girls%26quot; skates - if you read it carefully it will say they come in black.

Hope that helps!
Reply:From a sports store like Hibbetts Sports if yall have one
Reply:any ice skating rink sells skates, why do you want black...i mean whatever float your boat, but generally black is made for guys...you can buy white skates and get boot black covers for them..
Reply:well, if i were you i would buy my skates in white! i love white ice skates, but why do you like black? i have white redells, that i got for my birthday 5 weeks ago for my 12th birthday, and they are still in good condition! i got mine from my rink i go to for lessons, at the roseville skatetown ice arena. they have a pro-shop there, and they even have black skates for girls. but i got white reidells. good luck!
Reply:I don%26#039;t know of any stores that sell black figure skates (that%26#039;s what kind you%26#039;d want if they%26#039;re not for hockey). But if you get a pair of white figure skates, which are much easier to find, you can buy black boot covers. You put them on over your skates and they stretch out to cover up the boot. They come in all different colors and patterns, and pretty much any store selling figure skates carries them.

I did search online for some black skates and they%26#039;re very hard to find if they%26#039;re not for hockey but here are some I found:

http://www.skates.com/Riedell-Custom-Col... (lets you choose the color of your skates...it%26#039;s not cheap though, about 200)
Reply:If you want black skates, just buy a boy%26#039;s/men%26#039;s size. If you go to a pro shop, tell them you want to be fitted for boy%26#039;s skates. You can check online shops (just search for figure skates)....some have skates that look more like an athletic shoe/ski boot. They have figure skate blades, not hockey blades, but as I%26#039;ve heard from recreational skaters, they%26#039;re much more comfortable than a traditional figure skating boot. They%26#039;re called Softecs. They come in pink, blue, black, white, gray.... You can find them at rainbosports.com or other pro shops as well.
Reply:It might be hard for you to find black skates for girls. You can custom order colored skates, but it might be expensive. A cheap alternative would be to buy black boot covers and put them over white skates.

Bunga pads and ice skates?

I was wondering. Will those ankle bunga pads work for me if my problem is located at the top ice skates where the low cut is by the ankle. I notice that the bunga pads are for the ball bone part of your ankle. Will this stop my ankles from moving side to side in my skates at above the ball bone part of my ankle as well?

Bunga pads and ice skates?
They make all different types of bunga pads for specific problems. I would suggest trying on the bunga pads to see if they would fix your problem. It sounds like if your ankles are moving a large enough amount that your skates may be too large which is causing your discomfort. I would suggest talking to your local pro shop about this. It sounds like the bunga pads you are talking about would be appropriate, but if you can I would suggest trying them on to make sure that they would reduce your irritation. It is usually not a good idea to wear an ankle brace or air cast with skates, if you have an ankle injury it is best to take time off of the ice to allow it to heal. Skates aren%26#039;t usually make to fit with air casts or ankle braces. I also don%26#039;t think these would reduce any of your irritation with your skates.
Reply:Bunga pads are perfect for ice skates. I have the kind that you%26#039;re talking about and they work great. I%26#039;d be surprised if you weren%26#039;t happy with them.
Reply:well bunga pads are designed to help with all the needs of figure skaters. If you go to bungapads.com they have a wide selection on the pads to get.

If you did get bunga pads it would help with your ankle problems are at. AT the top of the skate is where alot of skaters have diffucluties with.

So yes bunga pads do help alot but you might want to buy 2 pair each. like 1 pair is one for right and left foot and the 2 pair would 2right and 2 left. if that makes sence. I have heard that they don%26#039;t last as long so yea.

What type of ice skates shold i buy ???

I have recreational ice skates and i was wondering are they any good ??? Im starting to really get into it, tricks like spins i was wondering what types of skates would be best ???

thanks in advance

What type of ice skates shold i buy ???
For spins and jumps, you%26#039;ll want a skate with more ankle support and a better blade than what comes with recreational skates. Usually for beginners, I suggest Riedells. They have decent boot/blade sets that won%26#039;t exactly break the bank. I would go to your nearest skate shop and get fitted for your skates to get the best fit for your feet. At the shop, they should be able to recommend which model to get. Sometimes you can find deals on skates on the internet, but you run the risk of them not fitting properly (size/width) and an incorrect size can not only hurt, but affect your skating. You may also want to check out Jacksons, which from what I have heard run small. Good luck and happy skating!
Reply:Depends...there are two types of ice skates: hockey and figure. The difference is the shape at the toe. I would recommend hockey skates, and some good brands are bauer, ccm, and many many others, but check out icewarehouse.com, epuck.com, and google ice hockey and you%26#039;ll find plenty of good ones. And yes, depending on the skate they can range from $50 - $600 +, just depends on what you%26#039;re doing with them.
Reply:If you go to a professional figureskating store they could probably pick out a good one. They start getting pricey like 200-300$
Reply:Well if you are into spinning around and stuff on the ice then you need %26quot;Figure Skater%26quot; skates with the toe pick. Otherwise Hockey skates for general skating, or %26quot;Racing%26quot; skates with the really long blade for racing.
Reply:id start off with a lower level reidel skate...their easily rebuilt and arent as costly as many others. they should last you a few levels before you really want to spend some money on better/higher quality skates.

Where can I buy some ice skates?

I have just started ice skating in Altrincham, Manchester and want to know if there is anywhere in the area where I can buy some skates.

Where can I buy some ice skates?
Welcome to the world of skating!!! :)

Although I%26#039;m not from Manchester, and would love to know what the Altrincham is like!! (can%26#039;t wait to visit) there should be a rink coach available to tell you the best place in the area to purchase your skates, if not, try checking out the yellow pages for sports shops in your area, if they don%26#039;t stock Ice skates they should be able to order them in for you.

Also be sure to find out where you can get your skates regularly sharpened (I recommend every 6-8 weeks, dependant on use).. The rink will have sharpening facilities, but I personally wouldn%26#039;t use them, take them to be sharpened elsewhere where someone actually knows what they are doing, they usually do a far superior job.

I have been skating for 18 years now and what I will say is that if your seriously considering taking up skating you need to buy a GOOD pair of skates, when your on that ice you have to stay friends with your feet!! lol and unfortunatly, this doesn%26#039;t come cheap...

The skates i use to compete cost me over £100! they are wonderful, soft(ish) leather and very very comfortable...(unfortunatly, i purchased them while visiting family in italy) but when I am just knocking about and rehearsing with my partner i wear %26quot;Belati Italia%26quot; skates, they will set you back about £70 but again are good quality skates, i would recommend them, but I do understand that money can be a factor.

Please, please, please do not buy your skates off ebay!! skate sizes differ from shoe sizes, I can guarentee you that you will take a bigger size in you skates than you do your shoes.. you will also benefit from looking for an ice skate with a wide last, it%26#039;s far more comfortable.

Please, also be careful if your going to be purchasing skate guards (I know skate guards arn%26#039;t supplied with all ice skates) make sure you purchase the right skate guards, the guards for figure skates and hockey skates differ.

When you first hit the ice on your new skates, wear (and carry)plasters, and try stay away from nylon socks they will make your feet sweat. Your new skates are going to rub, and hurt for the first few days that you wear them, but like every other shoe that causes initial discomfort they will break in after a couple of days...

If you have any other questions, or need any other advise on anything skating wise, just give me a shout on IM or Mail. I%26#039;ll aid you all I can...

All the best with your skating!!

Reply:You can buy them at the local ice rink because they have mixtures of makes there, but I think the best ones are Risport %26amp; Risport Laser!
Reply:I guess it depends on what level of skater you are. If you%26#039;re just looking for recreational skates you could look on ebay or a used sporting goods store. If you%26#039;re taking lessons and skating a lot i would recommend going to a pro shop to get skates. That way you can be sure they are properly fitted and designed for the level of skater you are. Ask someone at the Altrincham Ice Dance club where they buy their skates. They have many knowledgeable skaters
Reply:In the skate shop at the ice rink or ebay.
Reply:You can buy a pair of skates at a local sporting goods shop, at the rink%26#039;s pro shop or online at eBay or other online sporting good stores. You need to be careful with sizing and buying skates online because you can easily buy a pair of skates and they will not fit right because you were unable to try them on. Just make sure that if you do choose to buy skates online that you know the brand, and what size to buy in that certain brand because they all run a little differently, and nothing is worse than skates that don%26#039;t fit right.
Reply:Ebay. I got a bran-spanking new pair for 20 dollars, compared to like....30-40 dollars.
Reply:well Play it Again Sports have some good, cheap ones. make sure u ask them to sharpen them before you leave. once you get really good and start landing jumps ( not the waltz but like the loop and lutz) Jackson is a good brand of skates. ask your coach. they will have good advice. hope i helped! :-D
Reply:If you%26#039;re looking for recreational skates any sports store will have those but for real competitive figure skates (that cost way more) you%26#039;ll have to go to a special figure skating store ,ask your coaches or another skater where you can go to buy them.
Reply:Go to an ice skating pro shop. Or you can go online or on eBay. There should be a pro shop near an ice skating rink. I HOPE THAT I HELPED!!!!!!!

Reply:You could buy them in your Shop in the rink, it is the best place so you can try them on. DO NOT BUY THEM FROM EBAY!! If you buy them from Ebay they might not fit you. My friend got some from Ebay and they did not fit you. You could also buy them from a sports shop. Good Luck!!
Reply:you could always buy off ebay and get them delivered
Reply:Hiya, i have just bought new skates (2 weeks ago), i did look around my local skate shop but its tiny and they only sold one brand of figure skate so against everybody%26#039;s recommendations i looked on the internet......i only wanted to buy from the UK sites as i live in Cardiff and i didn%26#039;t want to buy off ebay so after a good search i found a site www.everglides.co.uk, if you go on here and click %26#039;shop online%26#039; they have a nice selection of skates and accessories at really good prices, i got riedell skates which cost something like 80 quid and they are great, i also got a skate bag and blade guards thrown in for small cost. The great thing is, if your skates dont fit, provided you havent worn them on the ice, you can send them back and get a different size for free, also the price shown for skates includes delivery to UK addresses and the blades come sharpened ready for you to hit the ice! I would def recommend this site, the people are excellent to communicate with and they do everything to ensure you get what you want! Hope this helps!!

Hockey ice skates and my ankle hurting?

I have these ice skates that hurt my back bottom calfs by my ankles.. rather i tighten then very tight or leave them loose are the to big or something or what .. i bought them off ebay and they are the kind u can mold to ur foot but i dont know if the guy molded it to his or not.. any suggestions?

Hockey ice skates and my ankle hurting?
You can re-mold skates. put them in a board (so you dont%26#039; damage the blade) on an oven set to warm for about 7-10 minutes then put them on as you would wear them in a game. leave them on until the cool, try walking around on them with good skate guards.

You can also wet them and walk around to break them in the old fashioned way...
Reply:He most likely molded them himself that is why you are feeling pain in your ankles.

I would suggest wearing 2 socks if you don%26#039;t already do so. Try taping your ankle with a special type of padding tap that you can get at any hockey or sports store. And try experimenting with the tightness when you tie your skates. Try making them as tight as possible then keep loosening them if the pain continues until you have found a comfortable tightness.
Reply:When you%26#039;re confident you have the right size, buy some new ones. Your toes should just touch the ends, so when you bend your knees they move off the end slightly. I learned on the wrong size skates - I went for my street shoe size and needed two sizes smaller.

Don%26#039;t know about the ankle thing- if you%26#039;re new to skating maybe you%26#039;re leaning inwards on your ankles too much.
Reply:Islanders fans always give the BIG headed answer that leaves you with the LEAST amount of information.

This can sometimes happen from your skates being too tight. While they are still breaking in, keep them a little looser.

Your problem, I believe, is that you aren%26#039;t getting anough blood to your foot/ankle region and that burning sensation you get after wearing them for 30-45 mins is actually the atrophy setting in from a lack of oxygen.
Reply:Get them heated, then molded to your foot. Get 2 - 3 times per week practicing until broken in. If your ankle hurts, x2 your socks!
Reply:why buy skates off ebay? next time, you should try to go to a quality sports store, try different pairs on, and then make a desicion based on what skates feel the best, soemthing you can%26#039;t do on ebay.. if the skates hurt that much sell them on ebay for more then you bought them for, and go get a new pair (NOT on ebay). if you really want to use these, then try to mold them to your foot. if that doesn%26#039;t work, well, it%26#039;ll take some getting used to but suck it up i%26#039;m sorry but thats what i%26#039;ve been told when my equipment hurts :P

tight or loose is up to you i like my skates real tight but some like it loose.

Where can I get cheap and good ice-skates in Singapore?

I%26#039;m just a student in Singapore and enjoy ice-skating. I%26#039;ve started ice-skating but feel that the rental skates are insufficient for what I want to do. I want to buy skates but then the skates are pretty expensive. Is there any other ways to get skates? Even second-hand ones are alright if they%26#039;re in good condition.

Where can I get cheap and good ice-skates in Singapore?
In rinks without a pro shop, there%26#039;s usually one coach who measures and orders skates. You%26#039;ll need to ask who that person is and find out how much s/he feels a good pair of beginner skates would cost. The cost should be somewhere between 120SGD and 160SGD, plus shipping. (You%26#039;ll also have to find out who sharpens skates since that%26#039;s a necessary maintenance.)

You can order off the internet, but you have to know what brand, model, and size you need. This is difficult to do without trying on skates. If you%26#039;re comfortable in the rental skates, find out what brand they are and go to their website to check out the models.

If you could get a pair of hand-me-down skates for little/no money, take them. Make sure they fit, of course, but you%26#039;re 14 so you%26#039;re still growing. You might outgrow the skates before they break down. If you ask around the rink, there could be someone with an old pair of skates that they could sell/give to you.

Don%26#039;t worry about the color of skates you buy. You can have white skates dyed black or put plastic tape over them. It%26#039;s more important that the skates work well than look good.
Reply:There%26#039;s a shop at Fuji Ice Palace at Jurong East Entertainment Complex that sells them. Or shop online for a pair.

Can i rent skates on o2 arena ice skating ?

Can i rent skates on o2 arena ice skating ?
All rinks that have public skating sessions offer rental skates.

Have fun skating!!
Reply:yes. not many people do own their own
Reply:Yes, you can rent skates at the arena, it%26#039;s usually only a few dollars.

Most rinks require you to leave your shoes in exchange for the skates, which leaves you walking around in your socks. Bring an extra pair of shoes to give in, so you can wear your %26quot;real%26quot; shoes while walking around.
Reply:Don%26#039;t worry, ALL public ice rinks have skates for hire

Decently Priced Ice skates?

I want ice skates for figure skating i am new to the sport adn need a decent but not to expensive priced pair as i am jsut beggining !

£35_ £50 tops

any recommendations ?? links would be helpful thanks

Decently Priced Ice skates?
Don%26#039;t get used skates. A good decent pair of skates might start @ 200.00+
Reply:By far the best way is to go to your nearest ice rink ,they will have a shop, talk to the tutors and skate teachers, they will tell you about the best skates for you and very often will be able to sell you a second hand set of top class skates in new condition.
Reply:www.skates.co.uk from £39.95 were the only under £50 i could find. They weren%26#039;t a well known make.

Wouldn%26#039;t recommend 2nd hand skates as they will have moulded to the shape of the other persons foot.

Risport skates tyically £65, Riedell £110

Would recommend you save for a bit longer, too cheap a skate will hurt/damage your foot and put you off skating.
Reply:Sorry sweatie, your not going to find skates that cheap ,not even used ones!!! At that price your only going to find something worn out ,something that you will hurt yourself with!!!
Reply:If you know someone in canada ask them to get them for you makes like bauer, ccm etc, tons cheaper even with parcel delievery.
Reply:I got mine off ebay for £15 inc p+p. They were the right size for me but the toe picks had been shaved off the blades so they are only good for recreational skating now and if I get good I will be looking out for newer ones. Having said that they do take me where I want to go so far. eBay is ok as long as you are sure what you are getting. Remember to get your blades sharpened before you first use them even if they are second hand as you won%26#039;t know how long since they were last done. MK is a good make of mass produced blade.
Reply:Try ebay.com cheap new items and good quality old ones.

You also could try looking at your local rink if they have a store.

Hope this helped!
Reply:I don%26#039;t know the currencey so well, but at skatebuys.com, there are ok priced skates. Riedells are about $100 for pretty good skates.

I hope this helps! :)

What Inline Skates Best Simulate Ice Skating?

I want a pair of inline skates I can use to practice when my school%26#039;s ice rink closes for the season. I%26#039;ve looked at the Pic Skates and they are a bit pricey. I was wondering if people know how good a simulator they actually are, and if there are any less expensive %26quot;second-best%26quot; simulators?

What Inline Skates Best Simulate Ice Skating?
Pic Skates are probably the best %26quot;known%26quot; substitute off ice . . . but there are other brands you might check out:

Snow White Artistic Inline Figure Skates (supposedly lighter)

http://www.inlinefigure.com/snowwhite.ht...

Jump-Spin Skate (I don%26#039;t know much about this one - its definitely not a figure skate boot. but it is %26quot;cheap%26quot;).

http://jumpspin.com/skate/id39.html

I haven%26#039;t actually compared prices or anything yet . . . but I have been looking into it off ice skates too (um - I have been for years!!!!).

I have tried the Pic Skates when the company came out to our rink. The boot is a figure skate boot so that feels %26quot;familiar%26quot; - but the frames are clunkier (heavier) and you just know you%26#039;re not on the ice. It feels slower . . . and spin technique is definitely different (I tried and I nearly ate it!).

I only tried them on for 5 minutes tops . . . so I couldn%26#039;t have possibly given them a good chance. I%26#039;m sure with practice I could figure out the inline technique for figure moves - it is kinda different - but if you get muscle memory for that, you may have to rework your ice technique when you get back.

It is pricey, but if I were to get them, I would get a new pair of the same exact figure skate boot I have and then the frame. When I tried on the Pic Skates long ago, the wheel configuration for my size was either too long or too short compared to my figure skate blades - maybe they worked that out since then. At this point, I lean more towards Pic Skates - only because I%26#039;ve seen and read more about them.
Reply:There are many brands of inline figure skates including Snow White (also the manufacturer of Jump Spin/Entry Level), Custom Inlines, PIC, Triax and more. Snow White and Custom Inlines are used by most of the World Championship medalists. Report It

Reply:The PIC skates are the only ones designed with the toe pick to emulate that part of your figure skates. If you want that feature, that is going to be your only choice.

To give you the manueverability of your figure skates you can look for %26quot;street%26quot; or roller hockey skates. They will have a shorter wheelbase than the typical skates for skating distances.

You might find some that allow the wheels to be rockered. That would mimic the curve of your ice blades better.

Without rockerable axles, you can possibly mimic the effect by finding some wheels that are only a couple millimeters different in diameter. That is not allways easy to find. You put the smaller wheels on the front and rear.
Reply:Since the other posters have pretty much covered everything there is as far as figure skating goes, I%26#039;ll take a gander that you might mean skates for hockey. The answer is pretty simple, just get hockey inline skates. Even if you%26#039;re not going to play hockey, and aren%26#039;t going to figure skate either, hockey skates still are best at mimicking the motions and feel of ice skates. This is because in the last 10 years of so, the brand Mission developed something called the %26quot;hi-lo%26quot; chassis, which Incorporated two 72mm wheels and two 80mm wheels in the back.They%26#039;re situated so that the two middle wheels are always touching the surface, and rocking back and forth gives that feeling of a slightly curved ice blade. This is now the standard formation for all inline hockey skates and is used by all brands. Hockey skates also lace up, which could be an easy transition from most ice skates, but might not be something that appeals to you. Like I said, this might not be what is right for you, but just in case it is, hope I helped.

Are the %26quot;Xcess Princess Ice skates%26quot; good?
If you just want a pair of skates to skate in for fun once a month or so, those are fine.

However, if you%26#039;re planning on skating more or taking lessons, you%26#039;d be better off going to a pro shop or skate fitter and getting a Riedell, Jackson, Risport, or Graf. These are reputable brands that will last longer %26amp; offer more ankle support than the one you linked to.
Reply:i reccomend riedell skates and parabolic blades, they%26#039;re sure to last longer and hold a better edge. go to www.riedell.com and see their reccomendations for boot and blades, its really helpful!

Are Freesport a good make of Ice Skates?

I have been looking on the internet for a pair of beginner figure skates and I have seen a pair of Freesport for £30.00. Does anyone know if this brand is a good quality make? I am going to be taking up ice skating, but I am not sure if I am going to stick with it so I do not want to spend lots of money on ice skates. But from previous experience, I know that the skates which are on offer at ice rinks are not very good. Any help will be useful, thanks!!

Are Freesport a good make of Ice Skates?
For any style of figure skating, the support from the boot will have a LOT to do with how well you skate and how comfortable you are. Try to avoid any cheap skate with a plastic boot. You will get no support as you try to learn, the boot will not break in to the shape of your foot and other areas may be uncomfortable, too. There are some elite microfiber boots that are good, but they are priced like leather.

If your budget is small, try to find a good pair of used leather skates at a re-sale sporting goods store, on Ebay or among skaters at your rink. Find out what the boots are made of and check the new retail price before buying used. Get a seasoned skater or your instructor to advise you before buying.

Until you find skates or decide to buy better skates, use rental skates, if they are available. Most rink rental skates are better quality than the Freesport.
Reply:No Way!...

Dont get these Skates!...

I had them and because there not real(thats why there cheap)

The upper ankle part of the boot rubs into you and you cant skate for more then half an hour!..The blades arent very good either...They are really bad skates..

Try some beginner risports or summin...

They are really bad skates DO NOT BUY THEM!

Good Luck =] x x
Reply:the shop at our rink (silverblades, hemel hempstead) sells risport figure skates and easton hockey skates, neither are top brands but both are considered reasonable.

don%26#039;t write off the shop at your rink.

if you%26#039;re taking lessons then ask your coach to recommend a skate and shop.

Could you skate backwards with rollor blade like ice skates?

if i could skate backwards with rollor blae, would that mean i could skate barkwards with ice skates? andi sit possable to o jumps with rollor blades, if so..is it the same w/ skates?

Could you skate backwards with rollor blade like ice skates?
I find that im not very good at roller blading becouse im a figure skater. Whenever i roller blade I try to do cross overs, go backwards or some different types of strokings (like russian stroking ect), one time i even caught my self before i did a spin on my rollers. you can go backwards on ice skates but i dont see how you can do it on roller blades unless if you do it really slow and carefully. 4 weels and one blade are a lot dif.

Problem or not ice skates / ice skating?

When I have my ice skates on the cement in our house(they are new by the way didnt try them yet) they have like a bump in the middle and you can lean back and it goes back you lean forward and it goes forward? Is it supposed to be like that or is it supposed to be straight with no bumps?

Problem or not ice skates / ice skating?
You should never walk on cement or a surface besides ice (that%26#039;s not the rubber pad in that you walk on out to the ice surface) without hard guards on, but make sure that unless you are walking in them that you take them off and put soft soakers on so that your blades don%26#039;t rust. The %26quot;bump%26quot; in the skate is called the rocker which allows you to skate without having your toe pick rub the ice all of the time which would make skating very tough.
Reply:well first of all you should never walk on cement or really anything without gards it wears the blade down. and yes they should have a rocker (the bump in the middle) you should be able to balance them by themselves on a flat surface, this is used for spinning and other moves
Reply:I assume you mean the blades? If your blades were straight, you%26#039;d be using speed skates. Figure skates and hockey skates have a slightly curved blade so you can maneuver. Speed skaters just want to go fast so the entire blade makes contact with the ice.

What is the best brand of ice skates to buy?

I am a beginner skater with no previous experience skating. I want to buy a pair of skates for leisure skating that will be durable and comfortable. I know nothing about ice skating so any info you can give me would be most appreciated. Thanks.

What is the best brand of ice skates to buy?
Buy used.............The skates tend to be already broken in and comfortable.

If you are unable to buy a used pair..........look for inexpensive skates by Bauer/Nike or CCM. These are the two largest skate manufacturers in the world and make skates for all forms (recreational, hockey, and figure skating).

Go to a store that specializes in skates, fit is very important in skates, especially if you%26#039;ve never skated before.

Hope this helps.

I believe you can buy them directly from the company, or you can Google inline artistic skates for an online shop that carries them, like NetSkate. The prices vary and should be on the website, but for the most part they can be just as pricey as %26quot;ice skates%26quot;. The more advanced frames will be more expensive.

You can get skate sets (boot and frames together) which may be somewhat cheaper, but the boots may not suit you (I believe they are lower level boots). You can get ice skate boots and put the artistic inline frames on them . . . which I would recommend if you already have a skate boot brand/size that fits you.

Hope that helps!
Reply:I think you are asking about RollerBlades?, You can buy them in most sport stores or even toy stores. just type in inline skates and you should have a bunch of web sites pop up even ebay (I would not buy a pair I can not try on first). Best of luck.

Ice skates laces trouble?

I have ice skates. I need new laces. I measured my old laces. They are 64%26quot;. I looked on a lot of sites and the smallest size is 96%26quot;. Am I measuring wrong? Does anyone know a place that sells 64%26quot; or a little bit bigger? HELP!!!!!!!!

Ice skates laces trouble?
I%26#039;d go ahead and remeasure the length just to make sure that you have measured correctly, but it is possible that they are shorter. Here are a few places that sell laces similar sizes http://www.skate-buys.com/laces1.html

http://www.skate-mart.com/catalog/access...
Reply:Go to a local rink and ask. They could probably help you. I bet a lot of people have the same problem.

Reply:Well worst comes to worst, you can trim the longer laces to fit. But try your local skate shop, they will most likely have the correct length, and if they don%26#039;t, they can direct you to someone who would.
Reply:The smallest laces I%26#039;ve ever seen are 72%26quot;. Are you sure you measured them right? What size are your skates?
Reply:At Skatebuys, they have a 63 inch figure skate laces . . . with the next size going up to 72 inches.

But do remeasure just to be sure. Get someone else to measure too for a second opinion!

Hope that helps!

After sharpening my ice skates will to be ok to go for my lesson?

I need to get my ice skates sharpened, because they are slipping a little. However my skating lesson is right at the start of the skating session so I will not be able to get used to them b4 the lesson. Will it be ok for me to skate in them or will I find it difficult?

After sharpening my ice skates will to be ok to go for my lesson?
You should be fine. It may take a short time to get used to them, but you may find you like shape blades better. Each skater has their own personal preference -- some like sharp, some don%26#039;t. Before your lesson, do a few stops and a few crossovers to get the feel for them, but don%26#039;t worry -- you%26#039;ll get used to it pretty quickly. Good luck! :)
Reply:Yes, it should be fine. It should feel a little slippery at first, but then it should be fine. =]]

Good Luckk!
Reply:If your an experienced skater it should take no time at all to get use to them.
Reply:yess it will be ok just a bit harder to stop and it might feel a little smoother. If you can try to go on for a half hour or so so that you can work them in a little
Reply:i don%26#039;t c y u shouldn%26#039;t go. I mean stopping will b a bit tough and it might feel weird wen u do ur three turns cuz there could be sum resistance but other than that u should b good.

Good luck with ur skating!!!: )
Reply:It will be ok just a little hard for you to stop, make sure not to go super fast right when you get in the ice, try moving then stopping a few times.
Reply:hurry up and practice on them on your own. Find some ice to skate on for an hour or so.
Reply:yes it will be ok to go for lesson, and it will be difficult but you have to get use to it!
Reply:They will have you grab edges easier, but stopping will be a little harder. But it%26#039;s nothing that your feet can%26#039;t adjust to in just a few minutes of skating. Have fun!
Reply:ya their ok but it is a lil harder to stop. i just got mine sharpened yesterday and i cant stop lol hope this helps. but dont wrry u%26#039;ll get used to them ♥

Rust ice skates?

Hi, two days ago i went ice skating, and in a rush i just packed away my skates to dry at home but i sort of forgot and have just looked at them now and there a tiny bit rusty, the edge rust came of with a stone, but on the bottom there is rust patches where they have been in contact with blade guards,

heres a couple of pics of the rust

http://i30.tinypic.com/2lu845i.jpg

http://i25.tinypic.com/ayab0j.jpg

sorry bout white bits in second pic

what can i do about the rust on the bottom to stop it spreading and to make the rust show up less.

thanks

Rust ice skates?
I copied this from peanutskates at an ice skating forum:

If you are so unfortunate as to get some rust on your blades even after all these precautions - fear not. Let%26#039;s assume you%26#039;ve noticed the rust in its%26#039; early stages:

-Get some bicarbonate of soda and a damp cloth (or a metal/wire sponge works really well)

-put the BoS around the rusty area and also a little on your sponge

-rub the area a little. If the rust is near a screw, use the tip of your sponge or a cotton bud to get in the edges.

-then get another clean half damp/half dry cloth

-remove the BoS with the damp half

-dry the area VERY thoroughly with the dry half

-use a hairdryer to dry little gaps in screws if you have applied the BoS there

However, if you haven%26#039;t looked at your blades in a while and the rust won%26#039;t be removed with the above mentioned BoS method:

-try using some sandpaper to sand off the rust (not too much though, or you could ruin the blades)

-if the rust looks REALLY bad and is on the edge of the blade (which is the part sharpened) go to a sharpener%26#039;s as soon as possible. It MAY still be possible for them to grind off the rust.

-if you can%26#039;t go to the sharpener%26#039;s until the next day, put BoS over the area, rub it in a little with a DRY sponge and leave until morning. Then wipe it off.

However, remember that unfortunately, rust can sometimes never be got rid of. For example, you may go and get the visible rust sharpened off, but it can still be in the blade and will just appear again and again. This is the case where:

-you need to get new blades

Remember, check your blades after every session. That way, you can catch rust as soon as it appears, if it does (hopefully not though!)

Being too obsessive about drying and checking your blades is better than not being careful enough and getting rust!
Reply:i%26#039;ve done this before, just use coke to rub it off the citric acid in the drink takes off most of the rust
Reply:Go ahead and sharpen them, that should get rid of most of the rust, and then make sure to properly care for them after you get them sharpened to prevent rust. There isn%26#039;t much you can do about rust besides sharpen it off because anything that removes rust is too harsh on the blades, that is one reason why if your blades are too rusty that you have to buy a new pair (your skates don%26#039;t look too bad). Good luck!
Reply:Usually sharpening gets rid of rust easiest. To stop it from spreading, leave your skates out so they can dry out. If you try to skate with the rust on the edges, you will slip off the edge a lot and your blades will not %26quot;grip%26quot; the ice very well.

To prevent rust in the future, dry your skates off as best you can when you get off the ice and put soakers or soft cloth guards on over your blades. Never leave plastic guards on your blades when they%26#039;re not being used. When you get home, take your skates out of your bag, take your soakers off and allow the entire skate to dry. This allows the blades to dry and not rust, the soles can dry and it airs out your skates on the inside from the moisture from your feet and can help prevent them from smelling. :)

CCM ice skates are they a good boot?
Yeah, that%26#039;s good for a 4 year old if she is just starting. Her feet are going to grow so you don%26#039;t want to spend like $200 on high level skates [like Riedell or Jackson]..

Recommended Ice Skates - Just had nike/bauer supreme 70's?

I currently have a pair of nike/bauer supreme 70%26#039;s ice skates and they have been total garbage...

What skates do you all recommended that will last long and that I will not have to get fixed every other week?

Recommended Ice Skates - Just had nike/bauer supreme 70%26#039;s?
I%26#039;m surprised to hear that about your experience with the 70%26#039;s. Anyhow, fit-wise, Mission and Easton will better resemble NikeBauers than either RBK or Graf.

If you%26#039;re looking for something beefy, I%26#039;d stay away from Eastons as well. That leaves Mission. Their Fuel line%26#039;s pretty nice, but I haven%26#039;t skated them myself. However, given the little information I have to go with, that%26#039;s what I%26#039;d recommend as a starting point.

I just got the Nike-Bauer Vapor XXV! They are the best! They are just like the XXXX but a whole lot cheaper!! They are the best skates on the market!! If you want to get away from nike-bauer then go with easton or CCM!!!

I hope you stick with the Nike-Bauer Vapor%26#039;s!! Theey are the best!!

i%26#039;m a bauer fan so kinda disapointed you didn%26#039;t like the 70s, i got the 90s and there amazing love them

try the missions or ccm

it all depends on the amount of money u r willing to spend

Sharpening ice-skates?

I recently took up ice-skating. I bought new Roces Figura Top Plus skates, they%26#039;re lovely!

The info in the box says that they are sharpened to 1/2%26quot; ROH, can anyone tell me what this means please?

Sharpening ice-skates?
The blades get dull and won%26#039;t move well if you don%26#039;t have them sharpened often, when you don%26#039;t glide as easily , take the skates into a sports shop and get the blades sharpened. They are sort of like a knife, a sharpened knife cuts well, but a dull one does not
Reply:something to do with the finish of the blade (how clean the blade is ie not serated or like a breadknife) i think
Reply:lol im a ice sk8er at a high lvl ( lvl 7/8 )

now i dont what 1/2 ROH but i think its the size of the blade

i dont no what rink your from but , most ice rinks have a guy that can sharpen blades

What size Ice Skates should I get? (tips welcome too :P)?

Im starting a new figure skating class tomorrow, what size skates shgould I get?

Im a size 4 and a 1/2 shoe (since i was 11) and im 15 now.

Any ice skating tips would also be appreciated too :P

and how long will it take for me to get to competition level?

What size Ice Skates should I get? (tips welcome too :P)?
It%26#039;s hard to tell because different brands of skates run differently. At my home rink, their rental skates do not come in half sizes, and we usually tell people to go up a size from their shoe size. The bad thing about using %26quot;mental rentals%26quot; for lessons is -- and I worked at an ice rink for a long time, so this is from experience working there and teaching there -- the skates don%26#039;t get sharpened nearly often enough, so sometimes skaters struggle through lessons and quit because they get frustrated when they%26#039;re unable to hold edges or even keep their feet underneath them. With rentals, one week you may get a pair that works well, the next week you may get a pair that are really broken down.

If you%26#039;re going to be taking lessons and plan to continue on, I%26#039;d suggest getting your own skates. Go to your local pro shop/skate shop and get fitted properly. Tell them that you%26#039;re just starting out, but plan to continue on with classes. They should be able to set you up with a boot/blade set that is the correct stiffness for a beginner, but will take you through most of the basic classes...at least through beginning spins and jumps. They will probably put you in a Riedell or Jackson skate. Don%26#039;t go to Sports Authority, Dunham%26#039;s, Dick%26#039;s Sporting Goods, Toys %26#039;R Us, etc. You%26#039;re not going to get the help you need, your questions answered, a correct fit or the right type of skate. The skates those stores have are for people who only plan to skate a few times a year, just doing laps around a rink or pond. You%26#039;re going to need a little better boot and blade for lessons -- plus who wants skates that everyone else%26#039;s stinky feet have been in!! :) They may cost a little more, but they%26#039;re going to last you longer than the Toys %26#039;R Us specials....as I%26#039;ve told other budding skaters here before, your skills will probably outgrow your skates pretty fast, and may even hold you back.

As for skating tips, the best tip I can give you is bend your knees!! If I had a dollar for everytime I told an adult or child skater that, I could probably quit my full-time job! :) Especially when you%26#039;re first starting out, everyone wants to keep their knees locked.....if you stay low on your knees and bend, you have more to push with. Keep a straight upper body, arms out for balance, don%26#039;t watch your feet, head up and bend your knees. Oh, and of course, have fun.

There are competitions for skaters in the basic skills programs now, if you%26#039;re interested in competitions. Check usfsa.org. You can search by location and date as to when competitions are. Other than that, how long it takes is up to you. How many hours do you spend practicing and how hard do you want to work?

Good luck -- I hope your lessons go well. :)
Reply:My daughter skates and she wears a size 7 and her skates are 5 1/2. Skate sizes can be 1 to 1 1/2 sizes smaller than your actual shoe size.Your best bet would be to go to your rink and get them to size your foot. When you go to the rink to try them on, wear THIN socks or tights. Good luck with your lesson!
Reply:i%26#039;m not sure how figure skates work... but hockey skates are usually about a size and a half smaller than your shoes. So i%26#039;m an 11 and i have 9 1/2 skates
Reply:i am size 8 in my skates and i am size 8 in shoes

i would rent skates before you buy them and just experiment with lots of sizes

it will probably take about 2 or 3 years to get to competition level

if you are just a begginer dont rush yourself just be patient

it is kinda wierd for a 15 year old to be starting

hard to break it to ya but i dont think you will be in the olympics if you are starting this late

hope i helped!!!!!!

ps. i luv skating and the jonas brothers!!!!!!
Reply:Okay, first of all, don%26#039;t make the same mistake that I did. I got skates 1 size to big and I couldnt even skate without my ankles killing. I am talking about skating, not even tricks.

Now, when you try on your skates try a 3 on, and see how that fits. It should fit like a glove, don%26#039;t let anyone tell you %26quot;oh, you need room to grow into them%26quot; NO YOU DONT!

Now, when going to try them on wear thin thin socks, if not even wear tights! [if you wear tights, dont wear socks] because you never wear heavy socks, they get all bunched up in your skate when you%26#039;re skating and the cause blisters.

Now, I am not sure what class your taking [ISI, ASFSC ...did i spell that right?]

I take ISI and when in ISI its around pre-alpha you do competition.

but really its whenever your coach, or teacher thinks your ready.

Good Luck!
Reply:I would suggest going to your local pro shop and being fitted for skates if you plan on buying skates since different brands, and types run differently size wise. If you are just trying to figure out what size of rental skates to get for you lesson I would suggest trying a size 4 or 4.5 and trying on a couple of pairs smaller and larger and seeing which ones fit fairly snug, but are not uncomfortable on your feet. Wear thin nylon or polyester socks. You can really begin competing at any level, but I would suggest waiting until you are able to do most basic jumps before you begin competition. Every skater is so different that the time table of when you will begin competition is very hard to judge. Good luck!
Reply:Besides the obvious (practice, practice, practice)

don%26#039;t let them talk you into filing down the first pick on the toe. Lots of people say, %26quot;Oh it will be easier to learn%26quot; but you will quickly get to the point when that extra spur is really helpful, especially in toe jumps. Learn to skate with the full pick
Reply:for rental skates? u can try ur own shoe size n if its too loose u can get a size smaller, as for ur own skates, ur gonna hafta get fitted...also, to get to competition level as in regionals, u hafta be a novice skater...so a looooong time...for regular competitions, the usfsa has competitions for all levels, u just hafta join it =D
Reply:You should go into your rink%26#039;s pro shop and see if they have someone available to fit you for skates. When you are buying skates, it is SO important to get a pair of skates that fit you properly and are the right level for you. Someone at the ice rink should be able to properly measure you and recommend a good pair of skates for you that are the proper stiffness and blade needed for your level. Never buy a pair of skates that you can take the boot, and fold it over. Those have 0 ankle support, and you%26#039;d be better off skating in rental skates.

Like someone else said, don%26#039;t ever buy skates with room to grow. Not only will it hinder your skating because your foot will be sliding around, you are also at risk for a lot of injury to your foot. A couple of friends of mine used to have ill-fitting and ill-supporting skates, and now they have lovely bone spurs on their feet to prove it. Also, you will not want to wear a thick pair of socks with your skates if they are too big, contrary to popular belief. Thick socks rub and cause blisters, and you also don%26#039;t get as good of a feel for your skates and the ice.
Reply:IDK but a thought is go to the pro shop and have your foot measured they know
Reply:Always get the size up in figure skates (bring a pair of thick socks because they WILL rub!) The only tips i could really help you with when I%26#039;m not there is keep kinda low and that will help balance, if your a beginner stay near the edges and then there there to grab in case you fall, once you get more confident move away from the edges and explore the ice rink.

Sharpening Ice Skates with Bench Grinder?

It is probably a horrible idea, but I was wondering if I could sharpen my hockey skates with a bench grinder that I own instead of paying every time to sharpen my ice skates professionally. Advice is appreciated.

Sharpening Ice Skates with Bench Grinder?
This is not a very good idea, and I can tell you from experience. I tried this once before and completely ruined my skates. It%26#039;s not that you can%26#039;t sharpen them with a bench grinder, because you can, if you plan on sharpening them like you would and an axe or hatchet. But I found out when you sharpen them this way, it%26#039;s almost impossible to skate on them and they become useless (unless you want to use them to cut down small trees.)

Next time you get your skates sharpened from a pro, take a look at the blades. They aren%26#039;t honed to on perfect, sharp v-like edge. A professional skate sharpener sharpens more toward the middle of the blade, allowing a kind of ridge in the middle of the blade. This may not seem like much, but that kind of sharpening is what allows for the best balance and longevity of the blades. It would also be almost impossible to do this on your own with a bench grinder.
Reply:You run the risk of the blades being unbalanced and not done right. Not really a good idea. You need the skates to be done right so you can stop, turn, etc. without hurting yourself and/or others.

Can you ice skate in figure skates if you are knocked kneed?

Can you ice skate in figure skates if you are knocked kneed (knees face in)? And is John Wilson Sheffield England blades a good brand?

Can you ice skate in figure skates if you are knocked kneed?
Yes a figure skater can be knocked kneed. It won%26#039;t have much effect on your skating because it will strengthen them. John Wilson blades are a good brand. I have them on my skates right now in fact. I use both MK, and John Wilson all of the time.
Reply:Yes, you can figure skate if you%26#039;re knock-knee%26#039;ed. Skating will help strengthen your knee muscles. You may need to have the blades adjusted to compensate for any alignment issues. A good pro shop can handle that easily.

John Wilson is a good name-brand blade company. %26quot;Sheffield, England%26quot; is their headquarters and foundry. Their products range from beginner blades to some of the best specialty blades on the market.

Reidell Skates offers Wilson blades many of their entry-level boot-and-blade sets. There are many different models of blades and they have different uses, so you should also find out the model before you buy - you don%26#039;t want to pay too much for an advanced blade if you%26#039;re a recreational/beginning skater.

Good luck.
Reply:wat and hus gonna stop u?... and bout the second question... im not reali into skates soo... dunno... *shrugs*... ^^

Double blade ice skates verse single which is best to start with ?

My daughter is beginning ice skating soon she is coming up 4 years old would you suggest double blades or is it best to start with the normal ice skates ???

Double blade ice skates verse single which is best to start with ?
I would say definitely the regular single blade skates.

Double blades (or double runners) really don%26#039;t teach a child how to balance on skates properly (it%26#039;s NOT like training wheels on a bike) - they just feel %26quot;secure%26quot; on the ice. They do not move like single blade skates - therefore you can%26#039;t really %26quot;figure%26quot; skate in them (they are more like mini sleds on each foot!). If you decide to have her start classes, most rinks would definitely not allow double runner skates to be used in class anyway.

Children adapt pretty quickly . . . she%26#039;ll get the hang of skating in %26quot;normal%26quot; skates soon enough!

Hope your daughter has fun with her ice skating!
Reply:Double Blades help with the balence but if she is taking the lessons she might want to get single blades only because she will want to keep going.
Reply:Single blades! My daughter is age 3 1/2, and she%26#039;s started on single blades. You%26#039;ll be amazed how quickly they learn to do the basics. I don%26#039;t think double blades would have helped her. In fact, I suspect they would have made it harder, if only because she%26#039;d then need to relearn all that stuff on single blades.

And if you do single blades, you can rent the skates at the rink, rather than having to buy them.
Reply:normal. she will get used to the double and it is very hard to switch to regular if you have used double.
Reply:I would suggest beginning with the single blade skates. From what I%26#039;ve seen the double blade skates just tend to slide all around the ice, and then when they do go to regular skates they have a really hard time.
Reply:Double blades are suposed to help with keeping balance in the begginning stages of learning to skate. It%26#039;s probably best to keep her off them because when one falls, especially when little, it won%26#039;t kill them and it usually doesn%26#039;t hurt that much. Plus, falling is part of the learning process! Double baldes will be hard to get off of after skating for a while and getting used to them. Buying regular blades to attach to her skates can be expensive.

It%26#039;s best to start with normal ice skates because she will learn the most important part of ice skating: balance. When you use double blades she will have to learn to balance on regular skates, and it will slow her progress.

Double blades are known to slide all around on the ice, and it doesn%26#039;t exactly teach her to balance, it just makes a %26quot;comfort factor,%26quot; and all it does is make her feel more afraid.

Double blades do not enable you to actually figure skates, and your main goal is to help your daughter learn, not feel comfortable. Ice rinks don%26#039;t take double blade skates most of the time because it doesn%26#039;t promote learning to skate. And you have to admit, don%26#039;t they look a little strange? She could be teased by other children at the rink in her group lesson.

Good luck!
Reply:single blade. if she is planning on continueing to higher levels. it really isnt that hard to babland on a single blade, i see little kids skating alla time

Ice Skates on Plane?

im going abroad for 2 weeks and i want to bring my ice skates.

they were very expensive and i can%26#039;t afford to lose them. so how should i bring them with me?

ps. if u have been to a competition in another state than your own, could u tell me how u brought your skates with u

thanks you so much!

Ice Skates on Plane?
Ice skates are prohibited from carry on baggage. The airlines will usually only budge on some rules for something like a medical condition, which is hard to do (going through security to get some of my liquid medication through that I would need in flight was a major nightmare, this was in November 2007). I would suggest getting a TSA approved lock for you bag and locking your skates if you plan to bring them. With even far away competitions you have to just hope that your skates get there because the airlines aren%26#039;t going to allow ice skates on a plane. Here are some helpful links that may help you with traveling with your skates. http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/a...

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/a...

Good luck!
Reply:It%26#039;s perfectly safe to bring your skates in the big luggage that you check in once you get into the airport. I suggest you to buy a good lock in the rare case someone steals the skates (fortunately that hasn%26#039;t happened to me yet and I never use locks! ^^%26#039;).

Just tell beforehand the security guys that you%26#039;re bringing ice skates in your luggage just in case. I%26#039;ve travelled over 6 times on planes with ice skates and I%26#039;ve only had a problem once:

It was July 2001 and I brought my skates ON THE PLANE to Kansas City. I wasn%26#039;t questioned by mexican plane officials when I boarded the plane, but when I did my connection in Houston I was still a minor flying alone (quite fun actually) and the airport lady had my documents and we were in a group of like 10 kids or something. We passed this security check where this guy saw my skates in the x-ray thing and was just staring at them not knowing what to do. Then I noticed everyone else was almost out of my sight!! I was getting freaked out because the woman had my passport and ticket and I%26#039;m stuck here with this guy who correctly assumed I wouldn%26#039;t hijack a plane with a pair of ice skates. Finally he let me go and I caught up with the group on time. This was before 9/11 BTW. I didn%26#039;t have any problems with the skates on my second flight.

So, just check them in the luggage and don%26#039;t bring them with you on the plane, you%26#039;ll be fine.
Reply:yah, i know how it feels to have a close connection with your skates!! i can%26#039;t even bare to loose mine or have them get damaged!! i%26#039;d just burst into tears!!!!! but luckily, mine are in good condition and safe! anyway, i use a zuca bag to travel safely with my skates and skating equipment! zuca is the best brand of bags for your skates!! and you can even put a lock on the zipper of your zuca to make them extra secure!! ;) heres a link to show how they look like!

hope this helps!
Reply:Before you go, call your airline and ask them if you can take your skates in your carry-on bag. Because skates are so expensive (and so dear to a skater%26#039;s heart!), if they will let you, I would put them in the bag you%26#039;re taking on with you so they don%26#039;t get lost in your luggage. If they won%26#039;t let you take them as a carry-on, there%26#039;s not much you can do than cross your fingers that your luggage gets to your destination with you.

I skated in the first Skate Aloha in Hawaii many years ago and at that time, I packed my skates in my carry-on bag. If I got there, but my luggage didn%26#039;t, at least I could still skate -- it%26#039;s easier to replace dresses than skates! But this was many years ago -- before 9/11 and when all the restrictions became more strict. I also skated in Colorado and took my skates there. Things are a lot different now, so I would just call the airline and find out if they%26#039;re going to give you a hard time or not getting through security.

Good luck!
Reply:Put them in your checked luggage. Besides probably not being allowed, it%26#039;s impractical to carry them on due to the size and weight.
Reply:don%26#039;t bring them abroad if traveling, put in you suit case- not in skate bag- i no someone whose got ruined

If anything, I would call the airline in advance to make sure . . . these airline restrictions keep changing - I can barely keep up!! It was so different before 9/11 . . .
Reply:I travel a lot 4 skating. Put them in your check in bag they will be safe. Also put each bad in a smaller bag inside the check in bag.On the smaller bag put a piece of masking tape on them that says FIGURE SKATES. They will not get lost

Allow ice skates on board a plane?

im going away to europe in 4 days, and im bringing my ice skates with me. they are my prized possesion, and they are worth like $1300. i mean id be devastated if they were lost. so im kind of afraid to put them in my suitcase..? but i need them for practice so i have to bring them. i dont think they will let me keep them in my passenger bag on board the plane, because of the blades though, right?

Allow ice skates on board a plane?
I can see the movie now,

%26quot;Skates on a Plane%26quot;

Where a figure skating terrorist hacks people apart with shiny ice skate blades and is finally subdued by Wesley Snipes or maybe even Bruce Willis.

You will need to check them, you are correct. People check valuable items every day, such as golf clubs, etc.
Reply:if on carry on i dont think so cause they have blades
Reply:People worry too much about losing bags. Besides if they lose your bag, they reimburse you for the contents.
Reply:they are as long as you declare them first and leave them in your luggage, but for safety reasons , check your local airport first...i live in LA and i bought an airsoft gun..i let it in my luggage and declared that i had it..they checked it from stock to muzzle and they had it concealed in the luggage which was moved to the plane before we got on..so, your ice skates will be unaccessible in the belly of the plane, so it should be perfectly fine
Reply:Since the blades can be considered a weapon, you%26#039;ll have to check them in.

Sorry.......

Happy travels!
Reply:Sorry but they will definitly not let you carry those on board with you. Your going to have to check them into your baggage. You could mail them to your house from where you are at now so that they don%26#039;t get lost with your suitcases though. I would try UPS or Fed-Ex so that you can track them.

Is it worth it to buy ice skates for fun?

I go ice skating with my friends about 1 or 2 times a week. Two of my friends have ice skates of their own. Should i get them? The cost of rental ice skates are 6$ i think.

Is it worth it to buy ice skates for fun?
If you skate that often then it is probably worth investing in some decent skates for yourself. I would make sure that you properly fit your skates, and that you get a decent pair, I would suggest talking to your local pro shop so you can get a good pair of skates! Good luck!
Reply:We%26#039;ll if you enjoy ice skating and you go once or twice a week then yes. When you have your own skates they tend to be more comfortable and the you don%26#039;t have to think of all the other random people who have worn those rental skates before you. Also if you buy skates just for fun, then they will not cost that much, like $50. Look at http://www.riedellskates.com/, they have some basic recreational skates that are reasonably priced.
Reply:Do you know how to ice skate then you should if you don%26#039;t there%26#039;s no reason to.
Reply:i think that if you are commeted to skating then yes!!! It shoudl help with money and you with the heck of blisters if you get any.

6$ is alot for rental. you can get a chep pair of skates at ***** Sporting Goods just for fun for right now. but do lessons then get a hight level of skates later on in the future.

good luck to you.!!

Ice Skates with Maximum Ankle Support?

My father in-law is a lifelong hockey fan and player, even in his sixties. He plays on a local team and accidentally broke his ankle last winter while playing the last game of the season. He now has a plat in his ankle but is determined to return to the ice for the coming season in just a few weeks.

My husband and I would like to find him a pair of skates that offers maximum ankle support, but since neither of us know much about skates, we were hoping you could offer some suggestions. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Ice Skates with Maximum Ankle Support?
in my opinion any new pair of skates offer great ankle support as long as they fit properly however i prefer ccm tacks or Nike-Bauer vapours both high quality skates at a medium price
Reply:I skated for 20 years in a professional Ice show. Custom boots cost a lot . In the range of 600 dollars, and that was 30 years ago. What I used to do is get a piece of leather sawn on top of the boot around the ankle and it worked great for about a year and than I would do it again. All my peers starting doing also. Your father inlaw could use his old skates which would fit and get the leather sawn on.

hope this helps.

Reply:If he is in his 60s he probably won%26#039;t wear the skates you get him. They%26#039;ll hurt and he%26#039;ll go back to his old ones.
Reply:I always went with ccm tacks, best skate for the price. Then I%26#039;d always take a roll of white hockey tape and wrap my ankles after I put my skates on, I couldn%26#039;t stand having my ankles flop around in my skates.
Reply:when it comes to the best support Tacks are the best. He has to actually go into a sports store %26amp; have his foot molded to the actual skate giving him the best support that any other skate has..you can find Tacks at any sports store I suggest that you don%26#039;t even consider play it again or used skates. They will not fit his foot properly. They may be a bit more expensive but it will be worth it.

Where to buy cheap ice skates?

I recently went ice skating and realised that I really liked it. I am willing to pay £35 for a pair of nice ice skating boots but I don%26#039;t seem to be able to find any. Most of them are figure skating boots and I really don%26#039;t want them. Do you know anywhere I can get some decent but cheap ice skates from?!

Thanks

Where to buy cheap ice skates?
Decent and cheap don%26#039;t often go together. Most people buy either hockey or figure skates, but there is an alternative. Jackson makes an inexpensive, mediocre skate called the %26quot;Softec%26quot; that looks like a running shoe. They come with either a hockey or figure skating blade. You can%26#039;t use them for advanced hockey OR figure skating because the boot and blade are only intended for beginners. The boots are a bit stiff and forward-leaning, like a ski boot, but the inside is well-padded and comfortable. CCM makes a similar skate that might be available in your area.

Good luck.

EDITED TO ADD:

You can buy Riedell versions of the Jackson Softec from SkateBuys - they ship internationally.

Reply:You can try e-bay, but I%26#039;m not really sure where you can get skates for $35. Play it again sports is where I got my first pair of skates for about $40, but I don%26#039;t know if they have any of them in the UK (I%26#039;m assuming you are in the UK, because you are using Euros). Most pairs of decent figure skates usually cost about $75-$100, but you can buy some less expensive ones that work.
Reply:i`d try ebay.
Reply:You can usually buy used skates at a low price. Make sure that the blades are in good condition. It also helps that the skates are already broken in.

I wouldn%26#039;t suggest using e-bay if you want to get a cheap pair, you can%26#039;t see how sharp the blades are. If they are really dull, you may have to spend around 80 bucks to sharpen them at a pro shop and you never know what condition they are in.

How do you tie Ice Skates?

I like to tie my skates really hard-so usually I like it very hard, and lately I%26#039;ve been having a lot of trouble tying it tight enough. Does anyone know any tricks on how to tie ice skates? So, if Im going skating and I put my skates on, I want to know how to tie them tight once on my feet. Thanks!

How do you tie Ice Skates?
I find this way very good for me, and I%26#039;m sure you will as well!

If you have ever laced up shoes from scratch its just like that. Cross one lace over each side on each hook, skipping 1 hook as you go, and then do the same on the other side. Make sure at the bottom you pull nice and tight to make it firm all the way up.

But you must also remember sometimes is not all that good to have it very tight around your ankles, as it can stop you from bending as low as you can go with things like. %26quot;shoot the duck%26quot;, %26quot;little man dips%26quot; and %26quot;sit spins%26quot;.

If the laces are a bit too long, or you want extra ankle support, try wrapping the extra lace string round the top of the boot, then tie. You can also cross the laces over each other at the top, to make it tight.

I hope this help you, and good luck with your skating!
Reply:start tieing them tight from the begining. dont pull ur hardest at the end, just make sure its really tight around ur angcle and around ur leg. the tighter the better
